Racers in Nostalgia Top Fuel and Funny Car will be vying for a win at one of the most unique tracks in the country.

During the course of the busy weekend those who helped further the sport of drag racing will be honored at the venue. Adding to the excitement, the California event will include the popular exhibition push starts throughout each day that were part of previous events.

The NHRA Motorsports Museum is continuing its efforts at implementing safety and operational improvements in anticipation of the 2017 California Hot Rod Reunion. For those who restore and maintain these magnificent machines the event will allocate more pit space to allow an even greater number of spectators to see and hear the cars up close as they are readied for their Cacklefest® appearances.

The Hot Rod Reunions are a series of events produced by the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum. The events are part of the museum’s “living history” philosophy, which works to bring to life the sights, sounds and people who made history in the early days of drag racing, land speed racing and the golden age of American car culture. 2014 - BARTONE JUGGERNAUT ROLLS INTO BAKERSFIELD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Tony Bartone enters the California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California®, with the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series Nostalgia Top Fuel title already in hand and has one goal for the weekend, make a clean sweep of the season at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, Oct. 17-19.

The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, created in 2009, preserves the NHRA’s rich history and tradition while capitalizing on the success of nostalgia drag racing competition. The series’ features 14 classes that compete at select events during the 10-race season. The thrilling quarter-mile racing is a one thrilling facet of the California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California.

Bartone has won each of the four NHRA Heritage Racing Series Nostalgia Top Fuel events this season, Bakersfield, California; Boise, Idaho; Bowling Green, Kentucky; and Epping, New Hampshire. He also has set low E.T. and top speed each event weekend.

“We have had a dream season obviously, we haven’t lost a round of competition in over a year now, and only missed one race,” Bartone said. “We would love to go to Bakersfield and win the final event of the season and sweep it. Whether or not we can do that is yet to be seen but we would love for that to happen.”

Any victory in drag racing is tough to come by and Bartone understands that. The East Coast racer will have to outrun a strong field of California based teams to complete the sweep but he is ready for the challenge.

“It is going to be little bit different than what we had in Epping,” he continued. “There are a lot of good cars out there, a lot of good cars. It won’t be an easy race but one more time is our goal. If we can do that is yet to be seen. But we would love to do that.”

Bartone, the 1996 Top Alcohol Funny Car world champion in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, and his team has poured hours of time and effort into this program and they are enjoying the fruits of their labor.

“This is our fifth season running this car with a couple of years of poking around before that, and probably have had seven years invested in the program,” he said. “You always go into a series thinking one day you would like to win a championship and I think what we were able to get in the last year is due to experience and making the car run consistent and that was the key.”

All the racers in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage series will aim for a strong finish to the 2014 season as they compete in thrilling nostalgic quarter-mile racing. Along with Top Fuel, Nostalgia Funny Car, A/Fuel, Junior Fuel and 7.0 Pro will battle for points during the California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California. Nostalgia Eliminator 1, A/Gas and A/FX will also race at the event, but will not earn points.

The racing action kicks off Oct. 17, at 8:30 a.m. with qualifying and exhibition runs in each of the categories. On Saturday, Nitro qualifying continues starting at noon with Nostalgia Top Fuel followed by Nostalgia Funny Car. Eliminations in both categories will begin on Saturday starting at 3:30 p.m. with Top Fuel taking to the track first.
